The following are learning objectives for a course I teach on Canadian Aboriginal Policy:

  • discuss how Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations have changed over time
  • criticallly analyze the implications Canadian policies – including social, politicial, and economic – on Indigenous communties
  • apply knowledge gained in the course to contemporary experiences of Indigenous peoples through the news media

Aligned learning activity:

  • write a critical reflection based on required reading that outlines relational shifts and changes over time
  • create a chronological timeline that maps out specific polices outlined in the textbook readings while noting the direct impacts these had on Indigenous lives and communities
  • choose a newspaper article from the last six months that focusses on an issue covered in the course and explain how the readings have shaped your understanding of current affairs in Indigneous communities
